Typically I’ve scoffed at goods made in the United States particularly because I haven’t seen the quality and the availability of brands I seek after. With growing uncertainty of the U.S. economy I’ve been thinking lately about supporting U.S. made products—at least I’m open to the idea. I’ve embraced globalization whole heartedly since studying the subject in college, but now I’m considering its negatives.

Do you have any favorite brands/products that are made in the U.S.? I’d like to know about them. Particularly those brands that are stylish and exemplify quality craftsmanship.

Do you have any websites that list U.S. made goods?

one item that is in my pocket currently: gerber pocket knife (http://www.gerbergear.com/product.php?model=6009)

one item that I carry in my camera bag and saves the day: leatherman

It does bring a smile to my face when i look down to see “Portland, OR” etched on both essential tools.

Also, Filson. I don’t know where their fabrics are made, but I believe their garments are still contructed here in Seattle. Their style is classic (which can be a pro or con) and I love their materials and function. I have two filson jackets that I use when I’m serious about life and living.

Gabe, I envy you because you have two Filson pieces in your wardrobe. Are either of them vintage?
