I was asked to update my profile on evogear.com so this is what I came up with…
Brands I am stoked on:
This year was the first time I’ve ever been on a Ride snowboard. Remarkable. I coupled my Ride Decade 162W with some black Union Force bindings. I’m not rocking anything new this year as far as outerwear goes, but if I found a bag of money I would buy the Prost jacket from Holden in a heartbeat—one each in Thunderstorm Blue and Grass (hemp). This year was the first time that I rocked some shoes by Adidas, now available in the evo store. Coal always impresses me with their headwear. Never Summer floored me with their Titan board. I pretty much slashed Stevens Pass all day, earlier this winter, like Freddy Krueger in the 80’s.
What I do at evo:
Officially I help promote our website through blogs, email, and affiliate marketing. Unofficially, I try to keep things tidy around the office. Highlights of this past year include: moving into a web marketing position which better suits me, working with some top notch designers, interviewing Eric Pollard, and getting our affiliate marketing program off the ground. My plans for this year include some top secret things that aren’t worth mentioning quite yet.
What do you like to do besides work at evo?:
Writing. Anything and everything. All day long I get these ideas for articles, interviews, advertisements and short stories. Some of them find their way onto my blog. You can check out an interview I did with skiing’s own Eric Pollard right here (thanks again Eric!). Other than that I like watching documentaries and organizing messes. I’m addicted to the Internet and I love technology. Nature is cool too.
How did you get your start with evo?:
I remember taking Organizational Behavior at SPU with Dr. Daniels and that’s where I first discovered Bryce. Dr. Daniels mentioned that he was sponsored by K2 and I was fascinated by this because it seemed that Bryce didn’t concern himself with the usual college experience, but threw himself into business, a skiing career, and real estate empire. A couple of seasons later I was working one of Evogear’s tent sales in Fremont and got to know Bryce pretty well. A few months later I got called up to the team, interviewed a couple times with Shilo, and finally got the job offer for the Marketing Coordinator position. Ever since it’s been a scenic train ride that never ends, but it’s okay because the dining car is always stocked and I have the coolest closet in Seattle a few steps away on our retail floor.
First time skiing or snowboarding?
Well, I tried skiing once in the 6th grade. I remember my cousins were going up and my mom let me skip school for the first time ever to go up to White Pass, WA. I rented skis and had awful outerwear so I quickly abandoned the sport, being a bit uncoordinated to manage two sticks. When I was 14 my cousin switched to snowboarding and I followed suit this time renting a K2 Fat Bob. This was in 1995. Eventually I found a community in the sport and found myself going up more and more. White Pass was good to me and I’ve longed to return after almost a decade of being away—I miss you. The first board I ever purchased was a Burton A-Deck 159, next a Burton Floater, then a Canyon and now I sport a Ride.
What else?
I usually think quotes are pretty cheesy unless the quotes are from 80’s movies, but this one from C.S. Lewis has pretty much stayed with me for the last 5 years or so. It keeps me focused on what’s important—not trends, but truth.
”...no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.
